My MIL is a smoker, has been since I've known her. She smokes in her house and the car, so when she comes into my house, she smells like an ash tray. She doesn't believe in second or third hand smoke. As a result, she has always been sneaky about smoking around my stepdaughter, even though my husband has told her not to multiple times. We no longer go visit at her house because of the smoking inside.
I just found out 2 weeks ago that I am pregnant. I am almost 6 weeks and I have asthma, so I don't even want to smell the smoke on her clothes.
Does anyone have any advice on how to tell her in a non confrontational way that if she comes into our house even smelling like smoke that she will be asked to leave? Also, she doesn't know I'm pregnant and won't for probably 2 weeks, but wants to come visit stepdaughter next weekend. I don't want to burn a bridge, so any advice or tactful and non offensive ways of articulating my feelings would be very helpful.
