PILs have opened an educational account for each of their three gc (our LO and niece and nephew).
DH doesn't understand why I am not thrilled by this. In the past PILs have had strings attached to money (we refused financial help with our wedding b/c they wanted to dictate guest list etc.). The account is in their names so they can pull the money out of them anytime they want, it is not technically LO's in my opinion for this reason (it is a specific type of account for gps to save for gc, so LO's name is on it in that sense).
Every birthday and Xmas they send an update of the funds in the account that are in lieu of a gift.
Now, I am happy for LO if this does help her in the future, PILs are paying in generous amounts and it could be great for her if it went towards tuition. It is their money, they can do what they want with it. But, I still feel uncomfortable. I don't want LO to feel endebted throughout her whole childhood by updates of funds she can use in X years time. It won't mean anything to her.
Am I being ridiculous?
