MIL asked if she could take LO for her first overnight, coincidently my mother asked if she could take ODD for an overnight on the same night. Hubby had the night off...first date night in 4 months...sure!
MIL is a daycare provider in the infant room at a local center and has been for as long as I've been alive (27 years). LO eats 22-25oz a day on average, I sent her with 27 from the fridge and 12 from the freezer just in case. LO was gone 23 hours and ate 33oz! She usually eats 3-4oz right before bed and sleeps until 3:30 and wakes up for another 2-3oz. MIL said she ate 8oz right before bed and woke up from a crack of thunder at 1:00 and ate another 6oz. We picked her up at 3:00pm, MIL said she'd eaten 6oz at 1:00pm and she was just hungry again and didn't want to thaw the other bag of breastmilk so she'd just finished a 2oz bottle of water. Wtf?!?
Fast forward to 8:30pm the same day. ODD (8yo) gets home with MY mother and walks in the door with a bowl of ice cream they just got right down the street. I told her that it was late to be having ice cream and that she was having a cavity filled in the morning. My mother replied that "well I promised her that we'd stop and get one, it's not her fault I was running late. I had to, that wouldn't have been fair". As far as the cavity my mother said "she promised me she'd brush really good".
Then while they were unpacking her things I discovered that ODD had snuck a bathing suit top out the door that she wasn't supposed to. Long story short: I let ODD get it under the agreement that she had to let daddy decide if it was appropriate or not, I felt it was borderline. If daddy said no it was understood it would be going back. Daddy said no, she snuck it to go with Grammy anyway. I said something about it to ODD and my mother said "well why, I don't see anything wrong with it" and scoffed at me right in front of ODD. They also unpacked trail mix with m&m's and a chocolate-chocolate chip pancake leftover from their dinner out.
ODD just turned 8 and despite my best efforts is still wetting the bed at night and has issues with poopy accidents quite frequently (a few times a week). My mother unpacked a stack of pull-ups and went to hand them to me and said that ODD asked to bring some here to wear. OMG, she's trying to sabotage me!!! She's still got my 8 year old in pull-ups at their house and nobody said anything and I had no idea. What kind of mother am I??? I refused the pull-ups and had a fit that she was still in them.
In light of all of this...heaven forbid we get one date night...it looks like both Gma's need a timeout!
