Recall your first victory

I think a lot of us have such solid spines and brass balls that we forget what our very first step towards taking our lives back was.

MIL was irritating me with the constant "Can I visit? I haven't seen GS in twoooooo daaaaaaaaays." I was going to the park the next day and said she could drop off the "important paperwork" to me there. I knew it would mean only a 10 minute visit instead of her trapping me in my home for 3 hours.

While there, she asked if we could stay longer and I said "It's time for his nap, so no." She sighed and started to get teary eyed, and said "Can I come on Sunday then?" (this was Friday)

Me: Sorry, MIL, we have plans

MIL: What about tomorrow then? I can meet up any time, any place. I just want to see him again. I miss him.

Me: MIL, you just saw him. I need a break from you, you are too overzealous. I'll call you in a few weeks for a visit.

MIL was silent, and had tears streaming down her face. She walked to her car and was about to leave and I went to her window and said "And if you ask DH to visit before then, we are going to have major problems."

(she had a habit of doing that).

I walke on air for like a month after that. It was my very first DWIL babystep. Smile

What was yours?
