MIL has a job interview at my work!

My MIL just called to tell me that she was called for an interview for a position at my work.

Here's my concern: last time (years ago) that she asked me to be a reference, I didn't know her well enough and was too spineless to say no. I assume she is going to leave me on as a contact because I have a very good reputation at my place of employment.

I think she would actually be a good employee, reliability wise, but I know she can be combative, dramatic, and emotional to the point of tears at her work. It could be damaging to my career to endorse her when she's kind of...yikes. Not to mention I DON'T want her working there with me because she's fucking obnoxious and crazy (my bg is on here) but she is struggling to make ends meet in a part time position in a grocery store. Maybe I shouldn't be selfish. However I also feel like this is a creepy way to get closer to DH and I (he works there too). We would all be in different departments, but work in the same area and would take breaks and eat in the same area, possibly at the same time. There is no real option to leave for lunch, as our work is in a remote location. Not to mention, I enjoy the time I spend with my friends.

I posted about my mom wanting me to work in her daycare (where my newborn will go when I return to work). That option is the lesser of two evils, right? I make a little over 3k a month, despite not completing my degree.

So: should I be honest if asked to provide a reference by the hiring department? My work is an amazing place to work for and I feel that sabotaging her would be cruel (she really is poor). Not to mention, she has NO savings at this point....which does not bode well for when she reaches the age where she needs to be taken care of. Is it in my best interest to help her for that reason?

Should I just say "fuck it" and work with my mom, who I get along with, and also be with my son?

Sorry for the novel. This is just not cool....I imagine carpools or lunch together and I just want to hurl. Not to mention all my coworkers know that she drives me insane. What to do?
